Weddings...

A friend of mine tied the knot this past weekend. It was a lovely ceremony and a wicked reception…I, of course, became the dancing queen after a few cocktails…busting out moves that no one has ever seen – I always think I look awesome on a dance floor, however, the photos prove something else…ok, so maybe I look like an asshole on the dance floor, but at least I had fun!

This is the first of three weddings I am attending in the 2008/2009 season. It seems that all of my friends are getting married; some elaborate affairs and others small intimate gatherings.

I used to love the idea of weddings – the day M.Stewart’s quarterly wedding edition hit the stands I was first in line to buy it. The glossy pictures of wedding cakes, gowns, favours, etc. always kept me wanting more. I always pictured that I would have the “wedding of the year” with a massive guest list and a sky-rocketing price tag….However, having been to a few weddings and having been asked to be a bridesmaid/maid of honour in 2009 – I’m not sure how I feel about weddings anymore. If and when I do get married, I want to be able to remember the event as being a moment with my husband and not with 300 of my “closest” friends. I get that other people want to share their moment with everyone and their brother; it’s just not me anymore. It’s funny how your dreams change without you really noticing.

I think that there has been a huge shift from traditional services, and now, more and more couples are opting for destination and outside weddings.

So, I may be slightly biased, considering I had a small wedding, however, it really is the way to go. Its nice when you get to enjoy your guests and their company, especially when so many of them drive for hours to be there.

Normally I am an advocate of Bigger is Better, but not in this case!
